With 15 of 30 games behind us, the top three in the League of Champions is a familiar list: Beerbased Lifeforms and Bier Nach Vier continue to lead the pack while Fame and Fortitude joins the hunt.

After victories against Straw Hat Pirates and Team Sylt 2000 (walk off), Bier Nach Vier looked strong with a 1-0 lead over Peg Leg Crew. Struggles on the field got the best of Peg Leg’s Mike Broz when tempers flared and the yellow card was drawn. But that lit a fire under teammate Jordan Girand who rose to the challenge and tied the game in minute 63 before putting the cincher in the net as time winded down, upsetting BNV. Rattled, Bier was happy with a draw against Whentown, and though they defeated Saint Philip FC, FC Actifit Peter, and Nova Bari, they came up short against Viktoria Linz and arch-rival Beerbased Lifeforms to end the stretch 5-1-3 with an overall record of 10-2-3.

Speaking of Beerbased Lifeforms, they went 5-3-1 during this stretch to take sole possession of first place in the LoC. After a win over Viktoria Linz, Exode MILF FC keeper Pawel Zielinski had a career game against the Lifeforms, turning away 5 shots on goal to escape in a 0-0 tie. Beerbased went on to victories against Nova Bari, Danglers FC, and a 6-0 showcase over FC Maryland. Though defense has been the hallmark of their season, they found themselves down 2-0 at halftime against Caceteiros FC. But experience won the day as they shut Caceteiros out in the second half while standout attacker Phil Weber scored two goals to secure the tie. Both offenses struggled when Agripinos FC came to town and left with a scoreless tie, but perhaps they were saving their firepower for the aforementioned 3-0 victory against now second-place Bier Nach Vier.

Their only blemish came in the following match where Beerbased Lifeforms fell 0-2 against Fame and Fortitude. Things got chippy during that contest with three yellow cards issued during a six-minute span to BBL’s Will Shao and Wiktor Olszewski, as well as F&F’s Miguel Fernandes. Fame and Fortitude is tied for second at 10-2-3.

The second half of the season kicks off next.
