My first post on PALNET

in #random-stuff7 years ago

Hello, all you fine people on Palnet and Steem!

This is my first post on palnet, I figured that it was time to give it a spin, now that it's live. This is pretty much a post about random things that don't fit into a topic specific post.

We have a cottonwood tree in our yard, right now it's doing the thing that is responsible for it's name. It's dropping it's pollen, or whatever it is, in profuse amounts. It almost looks like snow on the yard and garden. A bit of a breeze sends this stuff flying everywhere.

Speaking of the garden, I'm almost done with the planting at home now. I still have to plant some Yukon Gold potatoes, but that it. The rows in the foreground are planted with popcorn.

I'm also almost done with the planting at my community garden plots. One of the plots is planted with Norland Red potatoes, and the other plot is planted with Painted Mountain hard corn. This is a type of flour corn that was developed from many Native American strains of corn in Montana.

My greenhouse tomato plants are growing nicely now. They seem to like the heat of the greenhouse, but I have to remember to water them regularly because they don't get rained on.

Now for something different. A week or so ago, I bought a short scale guitar neck on Ebay to use as the neck for an electric baritone ukulele that I'm planning on building in the near future. Now that I have the neck, I need to come up with a body and hardware for it. This is a Fender Starcaster guitar neck.

And for something completely different, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a small camper trailer, one of the "canned ham" type trailers. This thing is a serious project camper, it's just the shell. It had been gutted to be rebuilt. I think this trailer may be older than I am, but I'm not sure. It's supposed to be an old Shasta camper, but there's no markings or identification plates on it anywhere. It's a single axle camper, so it's small enough for me to pull it with my vehicle. It's going to need a lot of work to get it ready to use, but I'm not in any hurry, so that's not a problem.

Well, I guess I've put up enough pictures for this post, thanks for stopping by to check them out!

Great looking garden, what do you do to keep the weeds away?

What do I do to keep the weeds away? I struggle a lot...LOL
I try to cover the ground between the rows with anything I can get my hands on to keep the weed from growing. I use boards, old rubber backed rugs that I cut into long strips, mulch when I can get it. I'll try just about anything to cover up the ground so the weeds don't grow.

Your garden looks so neat I thought you had a secret... ha ha... That's about what I do...with the boards and things ... Thanks ....

By the middle of summer, it probably won't look quite so neat...LOL

Getting interesting on this planet.io

i like that camper, can't wait to see how it turns out, that thing definitely has potential. my grandpa had something like that in the 60's and went across the country in it.

Thanks!
There's a lot of work to be done, but none of it is particularly difficult, it's just going to take some time to get it done.
I can definitely see traveling in this camper once it's ready.

that needs a bit of insulation, wiring, a fan, some paneling, and a few good coats of rustoleum. stick a foam mattress in the back and an ice chest, good to go!

Yes, pretty much! I have a small sink and a small stove from a camper that I might put in it eventually. I'll have to get a heater for those cold days...
