random thoughts on intelligence

in #random6 years ago

it's a weird thing, the intelligence. everyone thinks they are smart. you'll hardly ever meet someone and think "oh, wow, this person is so much smarter than me, how will I deal with them?". No, you only ever meet people who are dumber than you, or just as smart as you are. the reason for this phenomena, is quite simple. if you met someone significantly smarter than you, and he started talking on his preferred level, you would not understand what they are saying. how could you, if you could understand them, then they wouldn't be smarter than you, they'd be just as smart as you. so you are left either thinking they are idiots, or insane, or best case scenario, weird as fuck. so in most cases, smarter one of the two, will size the other down, as dumber, and modify their speech to accommodate the dumber person. this is not conscious decision, we all do it. what would be a point in sharing your thoughts where they will fall on deaf ears? plus, no one wants to be judged as weirdo, so maybe some part of it is even conscious (sp, never know with these).

this phenomena is easily demonstrable online. as with many things, people online lose their inhibitions. besides, they are talking to a warm machine that will never judge them, whether they watch porn on it, or do math. the machine will always do everything for them, and never limit them. it's like silicon love. so often times, really smart people will dare to share their ideas online. unfortunately. I can not count the times I read something online or heard something, and was like "O.M.G. this is so ingenious, it will change the way we live our lives", and then I would scroll down to comment section, and every other comment would be like "you stupid", "kill your self", "don't have children". these people aren't to blame. they just read something that they didn't understand. in their experience, they never encountered something they never understand because of automatic leveling of conversation that happens. they have no reason to question their own intelligence. but they did meet people who are dumber then they are. so for all they know, they are the smartest person around. so if you say something they don't understand, naturally, it's not them who are dumb, it's you. how could it be the other way around.

which leads me to believe that we should all be told that we are dumb, by some sort of authority. like teachers or something. or maybe some even more infallible thing. people should know that they are dumb, so that when they encounter something that is too smart for them, they know it's their fault. that would hopefully prevent them from yelling "die in fire" at everyone who is smarter than they are, and it would allow smart people to flourish, rather than stifling them under heavy unwarranted criticism. it would be beneficial to us all. but how do we know who is smart and who is dumb, if no one can know it? I mean, how many times did I think I was dealing with a moron? was it because they were a moron, or did I merely failed to understand what they were saying? I can't know. So my thinking is, we should develop some sort of software, that would not be sort of artificial intelligence that learns from social media, but pre programmed, that would scan your comments before you post them, and rank them by estimated intelligence, from one to 10. if for example you read something that is rated 8, and you type a comment that gets the rating 2, you will see that your comment is worthless, that problem is in you, and you'd be able to shut your stupid mouth next time, therefore, making a world a better place. :pbetter place.gif
