Megan Markle can shut up

in #rant6 years ago (edited)

So, I recently watched a 5 minute long video of a speech Megan Markle gave to women at the UN. Before watching this I must admit I rather liked Megan... after all what's not to like right? She seems lovely. However this video has changed my opinions somewhat.

She begins this speech talking about an advert she watched in school as a child, this advert was about dish soap. Shock horror right? Goodness knows those dish soap ads really effect peoples views on equality eh? The ad contained the slogan "women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans." To which a boy in her class commented "yeah, that's where women belong... In the kitchen." Miss Megan Markle of course found this despicable and the budding little feminist that she was decided to write letters to the most powerful women she could think of.

These women were, the first lady at the time (Hillary Clinton) also known as killary because she's practically a sociopath who's caused the death of many people. Not to mention threatening assault victims of her dear husband into silence. Great advocate for women, so well done Megan, you definitely picked a good one to write to.
If I'm honest I can't remember who all the others were, so they can't have been that important. But one was the company who owned the dish soap. Proctor and Gamble.

For most of the video she talks about how amazing she was for doing this at 11 years old (not really that much of an achievement, in fact it was pretty dumb, very childlike, so hardly surprising.) In any case, she got letters of encouragement back from the women, and Proctor and Gamble changed the slogan to "people all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans".

WHAT A WIN FOR WOMENS RIGHTS. You know it is so important that we get control of these pesky household products adverts and stop them from further widening the gap between men and women's equality.
And how very important that she deliver this speech to none other than the UN, I'm sure they all applauded because of how moving it was and not just because they're all vapid mindless lemmings who apparently have nothing else to be concerned about, like say? Saudi Arabia's treatment of women? NO of course not, that's hardly an issue when Proctor and Gamble are suggesting that women wash up.

Stay safe out there guys, who knows when the patriarchy will get you. xox
