It takes me forever to find new books to read. This may be because I am quite specific over what I like. I don't read for the sake of reading, so I am not going to just read every hyped piece of trash or even consider things out of the genre I want.
I assume there are books in other genres that are likely really good, I can think of something like "I am David" or "See Nathan run" as example or even "Thinner" by that King bloke, or one of my all time favourites "At Romes Gates" no clue who wrote it though. Honestly anything outside of fantasy are far more hit and miss.
Fantasy just has the vibe I want, same as I don't listen to music to put me into a certain mood, I listen to music to suit my mood.
So yes it can be months before I find something that I can tolerate past the first chapter.
Art of the Adept is my most recent find.

Art of the Adept Series by Michael G. Manning | Goodreads
It hits all the points I like really well. The series has some politics but not retard level like Game of Thrones or even Throne of Thorns. I do not care for anyone besides the main character and directly connected people. I do not care for plots being explained outside of the main characters view. I also do not care for groups or teams that work together and are treated to equal time.
I want 1 bro or gal to kick ass and everything else needs to support that, I am a quite simple reader really.
Art of the Adept hits on that core principle for me really well. Gemini says that is first-person limited view. So I like that.
Anyway, the other thing I do not care for is too much ongoing description. Art of the Adept does this rather well and I only have to skip a couple paragraphs at a time instead of whole chapters as I tend to do with most books. I think that irritating Sandersons Books I could skip multiple chapters and not lose a single piece of context as I did.
It also depends what mood I am in sometimes I will read the battle descriptions and bits of turmoil other times I can't be arsed and that suits me just fine. Art of the Adepts has more than enough cool magic and inner turmoil as the main character grows and it makes a habit of iterating the growth points in a very realistic fashion.
The same as we grow from stupid mistakes and repeat them but slightly different , the books do a good job of applying that weakness to the main character. It also means I have a good queue for the lead to be overcoming something and you know that is gonna be a "booyah" moment.
All in all it is the first series I have not been able to just stop reading in a long time and sadly that means I am basically done, since I am now on book 5 and I started the series last weekend. So I am trying to not read just so I can have something to read later. lmao.
