Discworld Marching On

in #reading3 years ago

Recently I have been reading some more Terry Pratchett, filling in the gaps of stories I have read before and just generally hopping from one to the other.

Currently, I am busy with Night Watch, which is part of the series inside the series about the City Watch.

Specifically, I like any book that has Captain Vimes in because he is just such quirky copper. I think Night Watch is a bit down the list of the City Watch series so I still need to go back up and after Night Watch I think I am going to read Guards! Guards!

In Reaper Man which is one of the books relating to DEATH they reference the Dragon quite often which is what Guards! Guards! follows and where Vimes kinda starts out his career so I think that is definitely a good next one in my Discworld endeavour.

I don't mind reading the books out of order and think for some like The Wee Free Men and I shall Wear Midnight Again it does save me from maybe finding a bit of distaste in some of the mini-series.

I Shall Wear Midnight Again for example follows Tiffany Aching and she is a witch but it reference a lot from the previous books concerning her, enough that I am pretty sure I would not have really cared to read them.

But that is something about the Terry Pratchett books, it really yisn't all magic and wonder, not even that much intrigue or complexity. They are just well written everyday, if you have a loose definition of everyday, stories.

In Reaper Man they also had quite a few references to Going Postal, and I found the series on Youtube but actually watching it was not particularly underwhelming, more it was aligning.

Oddly enough I think if the series was too good I might night want to keep reading but it showed the flaws in trying to adapt the books since the stories flow rather surprise in my opinion. That can make people think well aren't these plots rather mundane but it is not so much about the plot and instead about the characters.

Anyway this is not some book review, I just figured I would scribble a bit about what I am reading.

Her and her sister even play a MUD Discworld game.
