I'm contemplating buying a dog too, maybe, I'll have to make a firm decision to rule out a stint abroad for the next 15 years or so if I do, but it's tempting - dog at my feet while reading!
Ever had one before, if not.. DON'T. They are a lot of work, and it's like having a mini kid. Cats are way easier to handle.
Actually yeah a cat maybe - Dogs I know are a lot of work hence why it's one for my 60s maybe!
