Art is Exploration

Some of us are explorers at heart. The thought of experiencing the new and expanding your limits is motivation for many things in life. For some, art is one of those things.

The beauty in art is that it is an endless medium for exploring your feelings, imagination, and even your own ego. If you can imagine a past experience that is important to you, then you can see those thoughts and feelings about the experience, through artwork. It doesn’t matter what the outcome is. And more importantly, it doesn’t matter that you follow any set of rules, created by some art god to constrict the value of creativity.

What matters is that you explore that experience, and all the senses and feelings it brings up. Let it overcome you. Certain patterns and colors may emerge. Use those patterns and colors in any way you want to, as you are the first person to attach emotions to your artwork.

I believe other people admire those that connect their own feelings with their creations, as we all aspire to speak our heart more every day. An artist can be the best example of a how-to explore yourself.

Passion drives me to do certain things, that work for me. Sometimes passion gets me in trouble. Passion is an important emotion in my life, but it’s usually derived from the people around me.

The above piece, titled “Fire Sign”, was an exploration of my feelings about passion. For the piece, I just needed an excessive use of color, and one dart, previously used for a dart game with friends. The more I moved the color with the tip of the dart, the more I felt passionate about it. It’s hard to explore passion all the time, but art is still an endless medium for exploring all types of feelings, imaginations, egos...
