How to make Life In A Glass like a BOSS [you will need a juicer]

in #recipes8 years ago

Around here, we call it Green Drink. It's one of those start-your-day-out-right and do-your-body-good concoctions.

If you have a juicer and never use it, or have one and have been playing around with the right combination of fruits and veggies to come up with THE staple, this is the drink for you.

Green Drink checks all the boxes: your greens, your digestive system, wards off colds, and provides a boost of energy and an overall feeling of wellbeing.

Here's a breakdown of what's in it and how it benefits you:

Kale: Vitamin K + a whole host of other nutrients and vitamins, lots of fibre to help with digestion
Cucumber: another variation of Vitamin K, water content
Green Apple: lower in sugar content with benefits of antioxidants
Ginger: relieves digestive issues + helps fight off common colds
Lemon: Vitamin C + antioxidants
Cilantro: another green + may help reduce LDL levels

If you've read any of my other posts (see bottom of this post for links), you know I am no health nut. I like to try to eat in a balanced way, so that my heart keeps ticking and my muscles keep working. And if they're on the up and up, I can indulge in that oh-so-good baking.

Here's what you need:

A juicer -- I have a Champion which has proven to be the boss of juicers
1 bunch kale (make sure it's really fresh -- you get more better tasting juice)
2 English cucumbers
8 Granny Smith apples
fresh ginger root (about an index finger in length)
2 lemons
1 bunch cilantro/coriander

Take out your favourite large bowl and as you prepare the ingredients, just dump them into the bowl to allow for easier feeding into your juicer.

Wash your kale and drain it.

Quarter your cucumbers lengthwise and then cut those long quarters in half, to make it easier to feed them through the juicer.

Wash your apples and remove the stems. Cut them in half, then cut each half in thirds.

Cut away the skin on your ginger. Slice in half if necessary.

Trim off the skin on your lemons then quarter them lengthwise.

Wash and rinse your bunch of cilantro and divide it in half.

Get juicing!

I like to juice a leaf of kale, followed by a slice or two of apple, or a piece of cucumber, to ensure the juicer is receiving enough liquid, to keep things moving through the machine.

This recipe will make about two carafes full of juice and lasts us a couple of days.

Enjoy!

Awesome! Good for you for starting your day right.

What do you do with the pulp?

I get rid of it. However, when a certain relative visits, he can't stand the waste so eats it for the fibre and any remaining nutrients ;P
