The evolution of Adam - a debt of blood and ghosts

in #religion7 years ago

This week we look at the implications of the difference between the subtle use of the phrase flesh and blood and flesh and bone; together with being formed of the the dust of the ground.

img source

First a little look at the sequence in which these phrases are applied.

  1. Adam is formed of the the dust of the ground
  2. The breath of life is breathed in, to make Adam a "living soul"
  3. Adam is then placed in the garden of Eden
  4. Eve is created and defined as "now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh"
  5. Adam and Eve, as "living souls", in their bodies of flesh and bone are immortal
  6. Partaking of the forbidden fruit results in the fall and Adam and Eve become mortal
  7. They and their offspring now have bodies of flesh and blood
  8. Jesus has, in Mary, a mortal mother and takes on flesh and blood
  9. Jesus inherits power over death via His immortal Father
  10. After surrendering his life on the cross, Jesus is able to take it up again
  11. The resurrected Christ now has an immortal body of flesh and bone
  12. All bodies, both human and animal, in their mortal state, as we are most familiar with them, are of the dust and flesh and blood

From the above sequence it is clear that the fall introduced not only sin and death to Adam and Eve but also blood into their then bodies of flesh and bone.

An immortal body of flesh and bone must then be animated and maintained by something besides circulating blood and that is what distinguishes it from a body of flesh and blood. It is this state that renders it immune to aging and other natural processes that make our current bodies fallen, susceptible to ailments and mortal.

It is the Spirit or Breath of Life that creates this condition.

On becoming mortal the spirit or breath of life that was breathed into Adam no longer performed this function. After the fall this spirit was not removed from Adam but simply the way it was bound to his body was changed.

Where previous to the fall, the spirit had been bound to Adam in an inseparable way and rendered it immortal. The spirit had been the primary animating force which maintained life in that state.

As a consequence of and post the fall, the spirit and body were now separable, more loosely bound and blood was the primary life maintaining medium within the body.

Blood had been received and a blood debt was owed.

Blood could now be lost, or the spirit could leave the body, resulting in death.

When the body has aged beyond a certain point or is damaged beyond repair the now more loosely bound spirit leaves that body as a person dies. This is the "ghost" that is referred to in the scriptural phrase of giving up the ghost.

Genesis 25:8 Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.

Genesis 35:29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

Job 3:11 Why died I not from the womb? why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

This is also the spirit or ghost that is referred to in relation to Christ surrendering up His life on the cross.

Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

Mark 15:37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

This spirit or ghost referred to in all of these instances is not the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit but the eternal individualized spirit that lives on after our death or separation from our bodies and will be reunited with our flesh in the resurrection enabled by Christ overcoming the fall.

Then will this spirit be bound to our flesh in an inseparable way and we will be immortal as Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden.

The blood debt will have been settled through Christs atonement and the effects of the fall reversed.

Hi @gavvet you actually portrayed the significance of the fact that the sacrifice made by christ on the cross isnt just a coincedence but went way back the time of Adam anf eve in the garden of eden.

The blood is very significant in the redemption of man. And thats why i enjoyed this

Great post of chronological linkage. Fantastic write up.

great message you really passed across, a simple thought will never comprehend, but a deep thought will open up a cocoon of discoveries,im following you immediately

Agree with you @josediccus very good post. Easy to read and understand.

@goddaily

Yet we cling on to blood, ever more afraid to give up the ghost. Quality triumphs quantity, don't try to extend what was meant to end.

My views on God have always been narrow, as I've always been an Satanist and later adapting Lucifer.

The only reason, I loved logic to everything.

But to bring logic to Christianity, it is very different and new to me.

This was nice.

nice

True doctrine, when comprehensively studied and understood, is logical, consistent. Truth is true precisely because it is not contradictory.

Often our difficulties with things stem more from a misunderstanding or shallow grasp of the material under consideration than from the matter itself.

Book knowledge means nothing if you do not apply it in your own life. Helps to deceive people though.

That's why Jesus also criticized the scribes: [Matthew 23:15] Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

And he also promised us the holy spirit:
[John 14:26] But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Because faith needs the Spirit of truth to stay vivid.

Hey man, you should dive into the Bible and see all the logic and truth God brings to life. I value your opinion and view but I just want to share my thoughts. Believing in God has changed my life, I encourage you to do the same.

It is interesting that as Jews we are told not to eat the blood - These are the Kosher laws.

nice

nice

And here we see some of the symbolism/reasoning behind those Kosher laws.

Precisely! Kosher meet and fish must be totally drained of all blood before being ingested. Although most Jews are probably not that stringent about these laws any more.

I agree with your analysis to some extent. The book of Romans 5:19 says

For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. ~KJV

So Jesus ransom sacrifice will pay for the sins of humankind.

nice

@gavvet, I'm not clear with something sir. Gen 3:19b says "for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return." If the current flesh is returned to dust after death, are we going to regain another flesh?

Check out Ezekiel 37 and Job 19:25-27

all that is created from the ground, and adam back to the ground.
the purpose of the spirit is not the ghost.
it is the original life of every eternal being. but mentioned the spirit, because maklhuk life that has died, and seemed to overshadow other living creatures that are still alive.

An immortal body of flesh and bone must then be animated and maintained by something besides circulating blood and that is what distinguishes it from a body of flesh and blood.

Must it? I mean in Eternity, all bets are off when it comes to our understanding of the physical universe (not that we can even completely understand the one in which we currently reside).

I think we're getting into the area where Faith trumps Sight.

1 Corinthians talks about the bodily resurrection. That includes all bodies, not just the ones buried nice and neatly in an airtight coffin. It includes "fish-food" (burials at sea), "worm-food" (decomposed and eaten bodies), and the incinerated (whether by cremation or at the stake by the "well meaning" papists).

Just try wrapping your head around that one.

As for whether is was the Blood or the Breath of Life that was the key component of our immortality, it may have been neither.

Adam and Eve were ejected from the Garden before they could eat from the Tree of Life. Judging from Genesis 3:22, it sounds like it was necessary to do so before they could eat from the Tree of Life and live forever in their sinful state. Everlasting life in this circumstance required neither blood or breath of life.

Very good written, thank god you had a pen,....

I am a Christian but not aware of this. Thanks for this revelation. From your insights, it is clear that the spirit indeed Was The flow and what gives life. The blood was introduced which now is the working flow that gives life to the mortal body. In order words:
Spirit - immortal
Blood - mortal.

No wonder a man dies when he loses blood.

Same vein a child of God who is to live by spirit dies and become ordinary when he is no longer in tune with the spirit.

Thank you so much for such an insight

Bro your this post was also intresting like

An interesting post! Thank you @gavvet.
There are three other verses that come to mind that support and further the thought you presented.
(Quotes are from the CLV. The weird symbols and letters are not typos but grammar marks; Bold is mine)

  • Luke 24:39 - |Perceive My •hands and My •feet, that it is I/ sMyself. Handle Me and |perceive, tfor a spirit |has not flesh and bones according as you |behold Me having."

This is the ONLY occurrence of the phrase “flesh and bones” in the NT. It is interesting that the time is AFTER His resurrection when He is in possession of His “spiritual” body.

  • I Cor 15:50 - Now this I am averring, brethren, that flesh and blood is not |able~ to enjoy an allotment in the kingdom of God, neither is •corruption enjoying the allotment of •incorruption.

Paul asserts that our current bodies CANNOT enter into the Kingdom of God, but must be transformed. (See I Cor 15:51-55)

  • Rom 8:11 - Now if the spirit of Him •Who rouses •Jesus from among the dead is making its home in you, He •Who rouses Christ Jesus from among the dead will also be vivifying your mortal •bodies because of His •spirit making its home i in you.

Paul states clearly that it is the SPIRIT that will also be giving life to our mortal bodies.

It is important that we teach scripture and NOT man’s teachings. It is only when an understanding is in agreement with the preponderance of ALL the scripture that we are safe from the teachings of men. A sequence of “proof texts” in support of an interpretation does not protect us from human bias; rather it’s the word dwelling in us richly.

@sirstacksalot does raise a question concerning the Tree of Life. The verse he quotes is an example of how ALL scripture must be considered before we arrive at an understanding. I suggest we need more discussion.

@Yulem

Why do people pay attention to this nonsense...

@gavvet is based on history as you postingkan very good purpose so that manusya the intelligent can think will but only people who got hidayahlah get the clue, that definite origin of creation there is wisdom of her

Your posts are very interesting and well written! Creation myths from many cultures have in common the use of mud, then there are differences as to how the transformation happened and we became flesh and bones and blood, also about the essence of the spirit and immortality. These are fascinating subjects to ponder. Great post!

Our soul is our reference to the eternal. Our body is temporal and unique at the same time. That also implies the uniqueness of the soul.

nice job,sir
