Thank you for this wonderful symbolic picture of God's grace.
King Saul and King David were admired as warrior kings. In that culture, Mephibosheth, being lame and unable to engage in battle, would be considered a dead dog who would have to beg for food.
David, as a type of the Messiah, raised up Mephibosheth to a place of honor by having him dine at his table. Mephibosheth, as a type of a sinner who is dead in his sins and trespasses, receives David's unmerited favor.
One day, all believers will dine at the king's table at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb because of God's amazing grace.
