Celebrating Shivratri in small temples of Himachal

in #religion6 years ago

Hi,

When I say small temple, I mean really small temples, like the one in Anu Chowk of Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh.

Its space is not bigger than that of a bus, just a single room occupied with Shiva-linga. But Shivaratri is a big festival, and they celebrate it by doing few things.

First is the organisation of live devotional music nights for single or two three days. People gather at night and sing all thw devotional songs.

Then on the day of Shiva-ratri a big feast is organised next to temple. Here anyone can come and eat the prepared meal, it doesn't matter which religion you follow. Some temples have this feast running for 2-3 days.

I think it is a delight to eat those Dhaam dishes for a change and for free. People sit in lines in squating posture and eat together, and no body leave the line until everyone eat and finish. Then sits the next line of people and they do the same. This is called the Dhaam culture in Himachal Pradesh.

Yesterday it was organised in this temple about 200 m left to my residence and today 2 others are organizing the same. One is about 100 m towards front and 2nd one is about 200 metres towards left.

Jai Lord Shiva.
