There are some good points brought up here, thank you. I feel reputation can have a useful and important place in the community. I also agree that it's not quite right, the way it is now. Hopefully it will improve as the rest of the site improves.

Personally, I'm kind of hoping another site comes through and takes the lead on this and the trending algorithm. I think it would lead to a mass exodus. It's kind of clear that steemit as a site builder is kind of in over their heads. Great idea guys, but poor implementation.
Some competition would be a good thing.
