If your staff is motivated, chances are you won’t have to supervise them beyond a certain minimal level. They will take the hint and execute their share of responsibilities by themselves. Perhaps, they will go out of the way and handle more than their fair share of responsibilities.
You will often find this sticker image on social media channels, which says employees stay when they are: paid well, mentored, challenged, promoted, involved, appreciated, values, on a mission, empowered, and trusted. None could be more correct for motivation. Motivated employees free you from tedious management hassles, some of which includes the hard part of disciplining the staff, thereby allowing you to focus on top end operations for expanding business.
Of course, there is a positive relationship between employee motivation levels and their productivity levels. Employees who are high on motivation will accomplish more in less time making their productivity shoot through the roof. More than just a hike in the quantity of work they complete, motivated employees will also add a dimension of quality. Why? Because they are doing the job from the bottom of their hearts.
Challenges That Retail Employees Face
Innumerable challenges dot the path of a retail employee, more so during weekends, holidays, and festivals when the high-demand season is in full swing. Here are a few of them:
Level of Detail: By its very nature, retail is a detail oriented sector. There are a great number of products and tens of producers making them. To organize them in shelves and to keep them re-stocked as they are exhausted is a repetitive and cumbersome task, to say the least.
Fixing Blues: Customer is the king in the market economy and the retail sector is no different. They will, quite unknowingly of course, disturb the products’ systematic arrangement, which you have worked so hard to get right. And during high season, your staff will have a nightmare putting things back in order many times in just one hour.
