It's wild to think people were paying almost new-car prices for a laptop with a 386 in our era of $500 (and far less sometimes) notebooks. I remember the old mail-order catalogs of computers from just a few years later, imagining what I could do with a Pentium laptop for $5-10K.

Sort:  

I bought my first PC in 1993. It would be more than a decade before I bought a laptop. The price premium on portability remained pretty high for a long time.

My dad had a work computer that included a laptop and dock. Monochrome screen. Windows 3.11, probably. Mouse trails were a necessity.
