The X-Files: A Cult Classic TV Show

in #review7 years ago (edited)

Occasional bad episodes notwithstanding, this is a superb paranormal sci-fi show even today. The overarching story involves interconnected episodes detailing the search for proof of extraterrestrial life and alien contact despite the efforts of shadowy forces within the government to conceal the truth. This is punctuated by various standalone monster-of-the-week episodes.

The science is sometimes dodgy, or even outright preposterous. The effects are sometimes effective, and sometimes not. The cutting-edge technology is obviously outdated by modern standards, but usually not shown as preposterously powerful. Let's just disregard the episode with the sentient AI computerized tower entirely...

On the whole, the X-Files still holds up over 20 years later. Most of the writing is solid. The stories keep up the suspense and drama. The pervading unexplained weirdness creates an atmosphere seen in no other show. If your favorite show has ended, or you're done binge-watching something else, give this one a shot.

The truth is out there.

The X-File is still my favorite show of all time. I'm not even sure "cult classic" is a good term. It's just a classic. It was both critically acclaimed and had very high ratings during most of its run. The recent season 10 6 episode revival also had high ratings though reviews were mixed. I though it was at least as good as any 6 classic episodes you might pick at random. Tentatively, there is another 10 or so episodes coming in season 11 next year.

it had some good ones in there

Love the X-Files. Just starting to watch all season for third time.

Same. Watching S2:E3 now.

Funny. I watched the movie. I want to believe this past weekend. Gotta love the X-Files
