Book Review - Man, The Unknown by Alexis Carrel

in #reviews7 years ago

While the controversy surrounding Dr. Carrel is a bit... controversial... the simplicity and fascinating perspective of this book cannot be argued. The book describes life science and particularly human biology from a very scientific and practical perspective. I feel like it probably laid the groundwork for today's functional medicine discipline because it describes each of the body systems and how they interact with each other in great detail. Some of his later books are definitely a bit weird and religious and dogmatic but this one stays scientific and of-the-facts. I really like that you get to see things from such a functional and complex perspective. Dr. Carrel won the Nobel Prize for his work pertaining to vascular sutures and what would later lead to organ transplants and blood transfusions. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars because I think if you are only to read one of Dr. Carrel's books it undoubtedly should be this one. Recommended.
