Rhapsodist Writing Contest #4 - My Angel

The story of my life began when I first set eyes on an angel. Looking up at her, backlit against the evening sun with a twinkle in her eyes, she looked gorgeous and my heart was captivated by her charming smile. Since that moment onwards, we never parted. I’ve never been happier in my life. We went through life’s mundane moments together, celebrated joyous occasions and cried when her mum passed away.

I remember the day when she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Oh how she hugged him like he meant the world to her. I’ll admit. I was jealous of the love and attention that has been taken away from me. Yet, watching the adorable baby still managed to melt my heart and I forgave him for taking away all the attention.

Years passed. The charming baby is now running around the house role playing as Thor. My angel has a few more wrinkles around her eyes but I still love her nonetheless.

Come Spring, a season of new beginnings and renewed vigour, yet there was an air of gloom and unhappiness in the house. There were a lot of yelling around, things getting thrown around, doors slamming, and plenty of sobbing. Finally, the day came when I was removed. There was nothing that I could do except watch her back turned upon me as she walked out of the door, forever gone from my life.

That was the day when I, the once glorious diamond ring, lost my shine and luster.
