"Without music, life for me would be a mistake", said Friedrich Nietzsche, a German philosopher. In fact, all his life Nietzsche tried to compose a piece of music but was unsuccessful. However, his work inspired many musicians, such as Robert Schumann and Richard Wagner.
Like Nietzsche, Kurt Vonnegut taught me the same. Music, he said, was not just playing a musical instrument or singing but life itself. I found it difficult to understand his words. However, in my young head, I thought that Kurt wanted to encourage me to see music as a life, not just a game. Years later I could understand Kurt's words, when music had become an inseparable part of my life.
I walked towards Kurt's Santana Studio. Maxim already knew that I was looking for him and had left a message for me to come to the studio.
Santana Studio was a small studio that had produced many indie musicians. A number of musicians at Buskeria, where music lovers played on the Rising Star game, recorded their first single at the studio. It was also there that Kurt opened a music class which taught the basics of music to young people like me.
There were several classes there. Basic Singing Lesson was the basic lesson. You needed at least 10 fans, level 10, 60 minutes time, and 40 percent energy to take this lesson. If successful, your skills would increase by 9 to 18 levels.
The next class was Guitar Lesson. As the name suggests, you would learn to improve your skills on playing bass and acoustic guitar. You needed at least 10 fans, level 10, 60 minutes time, and 40 percent energy in this lesson. Your skill would then increase by 7 to 14 levels.
There were other classes that were more advanced, such as Orchestral Lesson, Production Lesson, Piano Lesson, Drum Lesson, and Road Crew Lesson. If all passed, you were ready to hold a concert with your band and plan a music tour to various cities or countries.
It was still a long way to go. I just learned to play guitar with Kurt. The lessons were not easy and it might take weeks or months to reach the skills of a musician.
I arrived at Santana Studio in the afternoon. Inside, I could hear someone playing Nowhere To Run by Indus Rus (@indusrush) on piano and guitar. I walked in and saw Kurt and Maxim collaborating to play the song.
Nowhere to run to,
Nowhere to hide,
Runnin 'on empty,
Choked up inside,
Nowhere to run to ...
I sat in the corner of the room and enjoyed the show.

Dream to be A Star (Part 19): Nowhere to Run
"Without music, life for me would be a mistake", kata Friedrich Nietzsche, seorang filsuf Jerman. Pada kenyataannya, sepanjang hidupnya Nietzsche berusaha menyusun sebuah karya musik tapi tak berhasil. Namun, karyanya menginspirasi banyak musisi, seperti Robert Schumann dan Richard Wagner.
Seperti Nietzsche, Kurt Vonnegut mengajarkan hal yang sama. Bermusik, kata dia, bukan sekadar memainkan alat musik atau bernyanyi tapi hidup itu sendiri. Aku sukar mencerna maksudnya. Namun, di kepalaku yang masih muda ini, aku berpendapat bahwa Kurt ingin mendorongku agar melihat kegiatan bermusik sebagai sebuah kehidupan, bukan cuma permainan. Bertahun-tahun kemudian aku baru memahami kata-kata Kurt, ketika musik telah menjadi hal yang tak terpisahkan dari hidupku.
Aku melangkah menuju Santana Studio milik Kurt. Maxim tampaknya sudah tahu bahwa aku sedang mencarinya dan telah meninggalkan pesan agar aku datang ke studio itu.
Santana Studio adalah studio kecil yang banyak melahirkan musisi indie. Sejumlah musisi di Buskeria, tempat para pencinta musik bermain di Rising Star game, merekam single pertamanya di studio ini. Di sana pula Kurt membuka kelas musik yang mengajarkan dasar-dasar musik bagi anak muda sepertiku.
Ada beberapa kelas di sana. Basic Singing Lesson adalah pelajaran dasar untuk bernyanyi. Kau membutuhkan sedikitnya 10 penggemar, level 10, waktu 60 menit, dan 40 persen energi untuk mengikuti pelajaran ini. Bila berhasil, keterampilanmu akan naik 9 sampai 18 tingkat.
Kelas berikutnya adalah Guitar Lesson. Seperti namanya, kau akan belajar menaikkan keterampilanmu bermain gitar bass dan akustik. Kau membutuhkan sedikitnya 10 penggemar, level 10, waktu 60 menit, dan 40 persen energi untuk mengambil pelajaran ini. Keterampilanmu kemudian akan naik 7 sampai 14 tingkat.
Ada kelas lain yang lebih maju, seperti Orchestral Lesson, Production Lesson, Piano Lesson, Drum Lesson, dan Road Crew Lesson. Bila semua lolos, kau siap untuk menggelar konser bersama grup bandmu dan melakukan tur ke berbagai kota atau negara.
Tapi, perjalanan ke sana masih jauh. Aku baru belajar bermain gitar dengan Kurt. Pelajarannya tak mudah dan butuh waktu berminggu-minggu dan mungkin berbulan-bulan untuk mencapai keterampilan seorang musisi.
Aku tiba di Santana Studio menjelang sore. Dari dalam terdengar seseorang memainkan lagu Nowhere To Run oleh Indus Rus (@indusrush) pada piano dan gitar. Aku masuk dan melihat Kurt dan Maxim berkolaborasi memainkan lagu itu dengan asyik.

Nowhere to hide,
Runnin' on empty,
Choked up inside,
Nowhere to run to...
Aku duduk di pojok ruang dan menikmati permainan mereka.
