Cover your eyes for a while and think about how you feel. What would happen if you left them closed for a long time? Well, you'd probably feel annoyed and end up opening them. But what would happen if you were blind and couldn't open them even if you wanted to? It would be a very difficult and sad situation. Well, Sigmund was born blind and has felt that frustration since he was born. He doesn't know what light is, the stars, or the faces of his family members. Growing up with this condition was very hard for him because he didn't understand why he couldn't see.
Despite how difficult the process of reaching adulthood was, he never gave up. And he fought until the end, overcoming every obstacle that came his way. All of this gave him the confidence to continue fighting in life. Although there's one small thing that has always been on his mind. He feels that his life has only been about surviving and resisting, but never about fulfilling himself as a person or following a dream. In other words, according to him, he only lives to fight another day.
Tapate los ojos por un rato y piensa en lo que sientes. ¿Qué pasaría si los dejas cerrados durante mucho tiempo? Bueno probablemente te sientas molesto y termines abriéndolos. Pero ¿y que pasaría si fueras siego y no podrías abrirlos aunque quisieras? Sería una situación muy difícil y triste. Bueno Sigmund nació siego de nacimiento y lleva sintiendo esa frustración desde que nació. No conoce lo que es la luz, las estrellas o los propios rostros de sus familiares. Crecer con este padecimiento fue muy duro para el, porque no entendía por que no podía ver.
A pesar de duro que fue el proceso para llegar a su adultez el nunca se rindió. Y luchó hasta el final por ir superando cada obstáculo que se le iba presentando. Todo esto le dio seguridad para continuar luchando en la vida. Aunque hay una pequeña cosa que siempre ha pensado en su mente. Siente que su vida solo ha sido para sobrevivir y resistir, pero nunca para realizarse como persona o para seguir un sueño. Es decir según el solo vive para luchar otro día.

Even so, he doesn't transmit these negative thoughts he has in his mind to the people around him. He lives with them inside. Being blind from birth, he has managed to develop great tactile skills, allowing him to recognize objects with his hands, remember their locations, and generally function well around the house. He earns a living with this skill, using it to count and polish pieces of plastic in a plumbing shop. Up until now, his life has been marked by the routine of struggling and continuing to live however he can. However, all this is about to change. Sigmund has a brother; that brother had children, so he now has nephews and nieces.
Every weekend, they would come over to the house to spend the afternoon with Sigmund and play with him. They would tell stories, play hide-and-seek to see if Sigmund could find them, and generally have a fun afternoon. But one time, Tito, his youngest nephew, was playing on his cell phone. Sigmund was sitting by the side of the house, listening to him play. What he was playing on the phone was a piano game. Tito had already played it quite a bit, so he knew how to do it very well. He told Tito that he was amazed at how well he did.
Then Tito replied that it was very easy and that if he wanted, he could show him the position of the keys so he could learn too. Sigmund laughed because he had never done it before, but in the end, he agreed. Surprisingly, since he was good at remembering the position of things, he had plenty of time to learn from Tito's explanations. And he started playing too. Tito was so amazed to see his blind uncle playing the piano on the phone that he recorded it and then showed it to his father, Sigmund's brother.
Aún así el no transmite estas ideas negativas que tiene en su mente a las personas que lo rodean. Vive con eso en su interior. Al ser una persona siega de nacimiento ha logrado desarrollar una gran habilidad del tacto, por lo que con las manos puede reconocer objetos, recordar la ubicación de las cosas y en general poder desenvolverse bien dentro del hogar. Con esa habilidad se gana la vida, pues la usa para contar y pulir piezas de platico en una fontanería. Hasta aquí su vida está marcada por la rutina de lucha, y seguir viviendo como se pueda. Aunque todo esto está a punto de cambiar. Sigmund tiene un hermano, ese hermano tuvo hijos, así que ya tiene sobrinos.
Todos los fines de semana ellos venían a la casa para pasar la tarde con Sigmund y jugar con el. Hacían cuentos, jugaban a las escondidas haber si Sigmund los encontraba y en general pasaban una tarde divertida. Pero en una ocasión Tito su sobrino más pequeño estaba jugando en el celular. Y Sigmund estaba sentado a su orilla escuchando como jugaba. Lo que el que el estaba jugando en el teléfono era un juego de tocar el piano. Tito ya lo había tocado bastante así que ya sabía hacerlo muy bien. El le dijo a Tito que se asombraba de lo bien que lo hizo.
Entonces el le respondió que era muy fácil y que si quería le enseñaba la posición de las teclas para que el aprendiera también. Sigmund se rio porque nunca lo había hecho pero al final aceptó. Asombrosamente como tenía buena habilidad para recordar la posición de las cosas con que Tito le explicara algunas veces tuvo para aprender. Y se puso a jugar también. A Tito le causó tanto asombro de ver a su tío ciego poder tocar el piano en el teléfono que lo grabó haciéndolo para luego enseñárselo a su papa, es decir el hermano de Sigmund.

When he got home, he immediately showed it to his father. He was surprised too, so he shared it on social media. And that was it. But a few days later, an association for the blind became interested in Sigmund's case. They were offering to help him learn to play a real piano. And if he learned, they could give him one. His brother immediately accepted. The next day, the association's team arrived, and together they went to see Sigmund. They told him what they had planned for him. He simply began to cry because he couldn't believe so many people cared about him and offered him such a great opportunity.
Now he'll have to practice a lot and learn to play a real piano. But we can be sure he'll succeed, as he has done so many times in the past. The best thing is that when he succeeds, his life will no longer be about simply living another day in the same routine, but about creating a life with meaning. He will succeed.
Cuando llegó a la casa enseguida se lo enseñó a su padre. Y el se sorprendió también, así que lo compartió en sus redes sociales. Y ahí quedó eso. Pero unos días después una asociación de ayuda para las personas ciegas se interesó en el caso de Sigmund. Se estaban ofreciendo para ayudarlo a aprender a tocar un piano real. Y si aprendía podían regalarle uno. El hermano enseguida aceptó. Al otro día llegó el equipo de trabajo de la asociación y juntos fueron a ver a Sigmund. Le contaron lo que tenían planeado para el. El simplemente comenzó a llorar, porque no podía creer que tantos se preocuparan por el y le ofrecieran esa gran oportunidad.
Ahora el tendrá que practicar mucho, y aprender a tocar un piano real. Pero podemos estar seguro que lo logrará, como lo ha hecho tantas veces en el pasado. Lo mejor es que cuando lo logre ya su vida no será simplemente para vivir un día más en la misma rutina, sino para crear una vida con sentido. El lo logrará.
