Asphalt, also known as bitumen, is a semi-solid form of petroleum which it can be obtained either as a residue from the distillation of petroleum or from natural deposits. The use of asphalts dates from the 3rd millennium BC in Pakistan. However during the years the techniques and applications of it have been improving. Nowadays the main use of asphalt is in road surfacing. Approximately the 90% of the asphalt in the world is recycled and leads to say that asphalt is an environmentally friendly material.
