Legged Robots

It is likely that you might have already seen a couple of walking robots in SCI-FI MOVIES. A walking robot is probably one of the most interesting and fascinating mechanism. Walking robots has it's own advantages over wheeled robots, an outstanding advantage is the ability to pass through difficult terrain. Robot engineers study how animals and insects walks so that they can use that knowledge to come up with a walking robot prototype. Take for example in the case of arthropods, or insects with many legs, such as ants, beetles, spiders etc., In nature these arthropods are able to survive and thrive because of their mobility and advantages of having many legs. This concept can be applied to a robot to increase their capability and mobility that can pass difficult terrain in order to accomplish a mission that would rather impossible to do.

Watch the video below where I build a walking robot prototype using the ROBOROBO Series Kit. A robot kit that will make it easy for young learners to jump into the study of robotics. Enjoy!

We are now in the midst of Industry 4.0 or the age of IoT (Internet of Things), cyber-physical systems, cloud computing and automation. Automation also includes, artificial intelligence, cognitive computing and robotics. This also means that our educational system will experience a dramatic change in its curriculum so it is no surprise now that their are already companies that are making tools for educators such as ROBOT KITS to make STEM teaching more realistic and engaging. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and teaching Robotics is actually hitting all these subjects, it also integrates information technology and computer science.

I hope this has been informative for you! Thanks for dropping by.

You may check some of my old post about robotics where I also include a video that you can watch while I build some prototypes and here are some of them:

Peace out!
