parkrun: New shoes

in #running7 years ago

My morning did not start that well as I overslept. I had intended to get up about 7:30, but the cat got me up before that for food and then I went back to sleep until 8. That didn't leave me much time for some breakfast and to cycle the few kilometres to the parkrun start. I got there just in time for the briefing, but didn't get to recover much from the ride. It's mostly uphill and takes something out of me.

For this year I've invested in some running shoes with more grip as the course is a bit muddy. These are Asics Gel Venture 6. It was a case of what trail shoes the local shop had, but I have good experience with Asics. They gave me a little more confidence on the slippery parts.

Shoes

There was a good turn-out. I wondered what was happening as there were runners coming away from the park as I arrived, but they may have been doing their own thing. I saw more on the way back and there was a bootcamp session going on there too. I guess lots of people are making an effort to get fit at the start of the year. I hope they can keep it up.

It was busy at the start, so it took me a while to get some space around me and get going properly. I think my cold has lingered a bit as my breathing was not at full capacity. By the second lap I was tiring, but kept going up the hill and overtook a few people. I wasn't expecting a great time and it turned out to be fairly average for me.

Run

The official results put me at 59th of 163 in 27:39. I've only done 12 parkruns in nearly a year. I hope to do a lot more this year and I'd like to get to some other locations too.

Enjoy your running. Check out #RunningProject to find lots more runners.

Looks like many of you are Asics fans 😀

Good for you since they are reliable and sturdy.

What about Inov-8? I would have thought that you Englishmen are more into local brands... They are top quality too.

I've not tried those. I go with what's in the local shop. Not so sure about buying shoes mail order.

My local Parkrun has set attendance records two weeks following - you're definitely right about people wanting to get more fit because of the new year!

Nice work on the time; you might not think it's the best but it's still pretty impressive!

We each have our own standards and I know I can go faster, but as a 50+ guy I can't complain too much about beating younger folk. I think this run had the most people on their first week, but it will be interesting to see if it grows in its second year.

That's a good effort after an extra sleep in... I can imagine exactly how rough you felt! Maybe leave 20 minutes earlier next week!

We had 327 people show up this a.m. which smashed the turnout record for Hereford.

Something of a coincidence on the trainers... old and new (ish.... I've worn them around town a few times to get my feet used to them)......

I'm so glad Asics fit me... I don't buy for brand, I buy for functionality, but these are both functional and have actually got some kudos too.

I went to Sports Direct as it was convenient and it was what they had in stock. I didn't have any issues with them on the run.

Some of the parkruns are huge. Letchworth is a small town, but they do pretty well. I feel I ought to volunteer a few times a year. There are a few others within a reasonable drive, so I will try to get to some of them.

That’s a good investment.
Nice shoes...you should try trailrun

I'm not as keen on mud as some people. I don't want to risk injury really.

Congrats for the 5:25, that's really great and good luck with the shoes, I love ASICS! 👟

I will have to keep Asics in mind if I am ever looking for some running shoes :) Who knows if that will ever happen though :)

I really don't know how they rate compared to others, but they have served me well. This is my third pair by them.

I feel like my buddy that used to run track and cross country in high school always had Asics as well, so I think you are probably onto something there :)
