Probably there is a way to choose the best shoe for a certain person if you start with the type of feet (pronator, neutral, supinator) and then you already have only limited options for your size and type of feet. So you go in a shop, try them out and consider the feeling of your feet in it. You can consider price and brand and color preferences at the end and so you find the optimum for you. This is how I go when choosing and it worked for 15 years ;) Currently, I am on Hoka One One neutral.

The way you choose the shoe is not wrong, make a series of selections to get to your favorite shoe.
I know Hoka pretty well, it's one of the most emerging brands on the market, but try to pay attention to your Hoka shoe because it's very saggy as a midsole, and it's not always good for your joints
