বিবৃতিতে হকিংয়ের দুই সন্তান লুসি ও রবার্ট জানিয়েছেন, 'গভীর বেদনার সঙ্গে জানাচ্ছি আমাদের বাবার প্রয়ান হয়েছে। তিনি একজন অসামান্য মানুষ ছিলেন। তাঁর কর্মধারা আগামীতেও সজীব থাকবে। উদ্যম ও ধারাবাহিকতার সঙ্গে তাঁর রসবোধ গোটা বিশ্বের মানুষকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করেছে। তাঁকে সব সময় মনে পড়বে।'
আধুনিক মহাকাশ পদার্থবিদ্যায় স্টিফেন হকিংয়ের অবদান অনস্বীকার্য। সৃষ্টির উত্স সম্পর্কে তাঁর গবেষণা ব্রহ্মাণ্ডের রহস্যভেদে সভ্যতাকে অনেকটা এগিয়ে দিয়েছেন বলে মত প্রকাশ করেন বিজ্ঞানীরা। শুধু গবেষণাই নয়, বিজ্ঞানের প্রসারে সব সময় তত্পর থাকতেন স্টিফেন হকিং। গোটা বিশ্বে ছড়িয়ে রয়েছেন তাঁর লক্ষ লক্ষ ছাত্র।
