I'm going to be talking about something that hit me — and many other Americans — right in the gut. When I heard, and then saw, the story of the young woman who lost her life on that train in Charlotte, North Carolina, I kept getting the feeling: “What if I was there? Could I have prevented it? Could I have saved her life?”
As men, we probably all wonder what we would do in that kind of situation. But because of my background, I know exactly what I would have done — because I’ve done it before. I would have quietly redirected that young lady to a safer location on the train.
I’ve read a lot of comments on social media — mostly from men — and I could tell many were experiencing real heartbreak, maybe even anger, over what happened. Men are naturally protective of women and children, and no amount of modern-day social programming is going to erase that instinct — at least not yet.
If there had been just one man on that train who was paying attention — not glued to his phone, not scrolling TikTok — that woman might still be alive today.
I couldn’t shake the feeling. The more I thought about what happened in Charlotte, the more I wanted to do something. And not just something small — but something big. Eventually, when the gears in my mind stopped spinning, a fully operational idea took shape — in the form of an app.
