Arose fairly early and had a delicious shower, then took advantage of the laundry facility to wash up my dirties. After a coffee and some yogurt it could not be reasonably put off any further, so started in on a long overdue engine oil change.
There were a few messy moments. You can see that Makina's engine has a built in pump to empty the old oil. It is just to the right of the white and red wiring left of center in the picture below.
The pump makes it easy to bring out the old oil yet holding a container to the spout, pointing down to the left of the pump, is difficult to do at the same time. Some oil got away on me which caused a messy clean up.
In the end, though, Makina had fresh oil and a new oil filter (that black item with white writing on it which is right of center in the photo above).
Also sprayed a little WD40 into the ignition key's slot.
Felt like a break was in order after all that, so headed off to the local barber to get a shearing.
After the new cut headed back down the hill towards the harbour, stopping at the post office. My package had still not arrived. The panic is off as a temporary prescription was issued from the local pharmacy yesterday.
It was then off to the Laughing Whale for one of their yummy egg salad sandwiches. When back at Makina the low energy task of inspecting the belts and bolts of the engine for wear, tear or looseness was completed. Everything seemed to check out.
With a couple of more tasks to the maintenance requiring my entry into the engine space through the port lazarette, an executive decision was made to hold off on those tasks until later.
It was a lovely day. Chilled onboard doing some gaming and social media.
One great piece of news when checking social media was from a friend in Halifax. He would like to do some sailing on Makina. He has lots of experience; even having had his own sailboat a few years back. Hopefully he can join me in Lunenburg. Time will tell.
He's a published author, who was onboarded to HIVE by me, going by @optnotten on HIVE. Hopefully we can explore Mahone Bay together.
After the heat of the day did some chillin' in the cockpit.

I have never before seen an engine painted white, nor one so clean.
Kudos!
Thanks. Credit for the white paint job of the comparment, itself, must be given to the previous owner's wife. She crawled around in there painting the hull's interior. It sets off the engine, nicely, which comes in that colour.
Way to get a haircut then put a hat on 😆
Was trying to highlight the wonderful trim he did on my 'stash. 😉
Oh, my bad. Carry on...

Looks like you've got great access to your engine!
That is everything, really...
When I had that huge, old commercial that I converted I had quite a bit of room all around that enormous Detroit V8, could walk but not stand upright.
Might even have pictures somewhere from the engine fire(s), that was fun, and would be fun to share here haha!
Wild, unruly times... I'm planning to do something on risk management too, so easy to get that wrong. Get it right and the world will watch in horror, then amazement 😱😁😄💪🤪
The previous one I had was a wooden motor sailboat, deep, round hull that was easy to work with using the side thrust from using the propeller in short bursts, could do seemingly impossible things in harbours.
My ex told me that once when I worked my way out from a very narrow one she saw an old fisherman kinda nod silently, guess that must have been my greatest moment in boats, although I did not see it myself haha!
I should probably work towards getting something tiny again, in the Med, from next year or so... Its just such a bore trying to get info out of sheeple online about how to do it with no paperwork or other BS!
The alternative is of course doing it seriously with an avenue towards earning, but for that I'd have to resurrect my papers... That has all changed, I think what I had is equivalent to the formal part of yachtmaster?
More stuff to check, or not if I just do it hehe....
Most of my previous sailing experience had come on the Yawl of my Father, so all that paperwork was his headache while my focus was on the sailing. It surprised me how much there was once my own skipper.
The engine space is a nice feature of the Cabot-36. They could have had a small rear stateroom yet it is a nice trade off when having to do some work like today. There is a small single berth on the starboard side behind the chart table.
