Another early rise yet the plan was to shave a few things off the todo list so there was no rolling over like the last couple of days. Had coffee, shower and internet check ins out of the way by the time the marina's yard opened up. The yard manager thought it could be the end of July or early August before they could turn to finishing the new engine installation. This is likely an aspect of the cruising life, waiting for weather and spare parts. All part of my lessons it is assumed. Trying to make lemonade here! 😎
Next called a surveyor that Chris, the owner, had suggested. The number would hang up on me so it looks like the number is no longer in use. We can only draw our own conclusions why until talking to Chris next. The Marina's Office had a stand where different business cards can be left for viewing. Found a couple of surveyors and got a response from the first one called. He could fix me in a week from today and asked that the details of the vessel be texted to him. He also had a suggestion for an instructor who could give me a sailing refresher and work on those brain memory muscles. He said his wife had used him after they got their first sailboat.
In my reply text it was explained about the state of the engine and if he might have a mechanic he could recommend that may be able to finish off the job. It was my thought, which was conveyed to him, that his survey would be more certain once it was operational even if it has paperwork to proving its vintage.
Then it was time to see about getting a hot spot aboard Makina to cut down the continuous running to the Marina's Town Square for wifi. Grabbed a taxi and we found a shop run by a group of Afghan dudes. My old Galaxy 7 turned out to still be locked by my original provider 7 years ago! It has been setup to use VOIP through Fongo over those seven years. It sounded like a lot of hassle to get it unlocked and my belief in backups has already been stated, so a previously enjoyed yet far newer (2021) Galaxy than my 7 was purchased. This sailing princes has all the mod cons.
Also took a trip to the Drug Store to get some bandaging supplies, as a blister on my pinky toe, caused by the long march to a branch of my bank a couple of days ago, which had been previously mentioned. Thought to throw some polysporn on it after hydroxide spray due to using public showers here at the Marina. No sense taking any chances is the motto of any good navigator. That was just made up, but it sounds sensible didn't it? 🙄
The rest of the day bathed in my sweet hotspot's signals and dreams of being on the high seas...
May the wind be at your back!
