Up fairly early yet no time for showers for today was exam day for the ROC(M) Radio License Course. Did some reviewing through the early morning. The exam started at 10:00 sharp. It was a one on one testing with 60 multiple choice question for a start, followed by role played radio scenarios. Things like calling a Mayday or asking a shore station for a radio check.
The entire thing was scheduled to take an hour and a half, yet Hans was so thorough in reviewing my test results and going over some areas of importance that it was just about 2 hours from start to finish.
So now that a MMSI ID has been assigned for Makina and the Skipper has his ROC(M) we are good to go on the chatty-chatty while on the high seas. 😎
Felt very pumped after the exam and put out the news to Pierre, my crewmate for the passage to Montreal if not further and James, the fellow would like to convoy down with me to Halifax.
Had some breakfast and a little HIVE curating. By early afternoon Roger, my newest mechanic appeared on the scene. He waisted no time in getting down to business. The new cables are a world of difference. We ran the engine after installation of the cables and changing gears and using the throttle have not only been made smooth and easy but much safer from suffering a cable break in some forlorn bay.
Roger also left me a brass connector to be able to run a breather hose for the fuel tank which, although hard to believe, had not been attached. We luckily had good weather on the sea trial from Scarborough and we were able to leave the diesel fill cap slightly loosened so that a vacuum would not be created as the diesel was burned from the tank.
Roger also left me some hose brackets and marked where to place them to clean up the engine compartment a bit and have the hoses positioned in a more orderly fashion.
He was a nice guy and we seemed to connect both being about the same age and both being surprised of that fact. The amount of cash on hand was not enough for the entire job so afterwards we went hunting for an ATM which was surprisingly difficult, yet we chatted the whole time so it was in fact enjoyable.
Roger would not take my offer of finding my own way back to the boat and drove me back to the marina. He genuinely asked that we stay in touch to see how the passage works out.
Back home alone touched base with my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law. We are planning to bring in an electrician, who does work for me from time to time, to have a look over what the inspectors from the corporation buying my property may have done intentionally or not with the electrical of the property. It is sounding like the grounding has been slightly compromised. Cody, the electrician, said he can get by early next week which should be just right for a close that is now scheduled for Sept. 6th due to my lawyer nailing down some aspects of the two year $1 lease.
Talked with Pierre via text and he is feeling good about the progress made today and is going to sleep on if there is anything else that he thinks may need looking into before departure. It will be then up to him when he feels ready. James is committed to stay in Kingston until an appointment on Sept 3rd which is not that great a delay to be able to strike off together.
More on that when Pierre and myself can have a face to face.
Until then...
May the wind be at your back!

Well done all around. I am also working on ship radio...
LOL! Hope your depth sounder is functional! 😁
Nah, I'm just always shallow. Ask anybody.
Awesome.
Kingston area is beautiful from the Sea … Especially the Thousand Islands. .. you will need to visit Bolt Castle and the Skull and Bones Island.
Lots of secret Treasure is hidden there. Mostly Gold coins. Just don’t get caught ! ☠️
You should make some YouTube Shorts and create a channel… you will easily get to 1,000 Subscribers and monetize. Will help pay for gas and other supplies. YouTube earnings $$$$ are pretty good with a boating / adventure theme. Even my kayak videos go viral from time to time. Pirate and shark stories are especially lucrative.
YouTube has an amazing copyright Free Music Library for their 1 minute Shorts ( from the iPhone)
Master and Commander :
With my dad, brother and son on Lake Superior… (near Batchewana Island)
Jaws Theme :
Those are wonderful ideas which you present for broadening my reach and enriching the content of the documentation of the adventure. An additional revenue stream would be a welcome addition for the boat kitty.
😎👍
Your Lake Superior clips are wonderful. Amazing how a music track can bring them alive and even set an emotional tone.
Again, thanks for your great suggestions and interest in the adventure!
