Every third week of May during the feast of their patron saint, San Isidro Labrador,a Sanggi Festival in the municipality of Tabogon was and will be celebrated yearly. Sanggi Festival is intended to showcase the socio-cultural and religious aspect of the lives of Taboganons. Sanggi Festival contains a wide range of activities related to farming – “pamugas” (sowing), “sanggi” (harvesting) and “pasalamat” (thanksgiving). Sanggi is a Cebuano term for “Harvest“.
May 20, 2024 was the second celebration of Sanggi Festival at Tabogon. My friends namely Jie-Anne, Josh and I decided to went to Tabogon to witnessed what Sanggi Festival is. But, we don't have a motorcycle so we message to our friends and we ask them if they have time and if they're willing to go with us to went to the said place, they agree.
As we will going to our destination, my sister decided to go with us together with his classmate I agree then we went together.We arrived at Tabogon within 30-40 minutes.The parade was already starting, so we wait in the area were the presentation will be held.
Here we are, we arrived at Tabogon Central School. We walked and find a place which is comfortable for us. There are many people who loved to watched the Festival too, looking at them I saw how excited they are as what I am feeling that day.
For almost 2 hours of waiting the contestants arrived, the long wait is over when the program started.
In the middle of introducing the judges an unexpected visitor came. She was non other than Gov.Gwen Garcia of Cebu City together with her family. Everyone was shocked because who's expecting that even in her busy days and hours she gave time to showcase her presence at Tabogon. She talked for a minutes and leave since she has a meeting at the City.
The photo is low quality because I'm far away from her, I just took a photo as a remembrance since it is the very first time I saw her.
After Gov.Gwen left the contest started. There are five contingents. The first contingents coming from Daanbantayan NHS(Barangays; Maslog, Alang-Alang, Daantabogon, Taba-ao, Muabog)
Next presentor was coming from Kal-Anan NHS(Barangays; Kal-Anan, Manlagtang, Loong, Labangon, Canao-Canao)
Third presentor was from Ilihan IS(Barangays; Ilihan, Managase, Caduawan, Libjo, Mabuli)
Next to present was from Doña Liling Neis Negapatan NHS(Barangays; Piyo, Poblacion, Tapul, Camoboan, Combado)
The last but not the least was coming from Don Esteban Nolasco MNHS(Barangays; Sambag, Somosa, San Isidro, San Vicente, Salag)
All the presentor presented, and I was amaze by their different type of performance, their efforts, dedication and confidence to make everyone proud. They all did their best.
After the five contingents presented the next part of the program was the festival queens showdown, but sadly it is very late in the afternoon, we decided to went back home because we had a household chores to be done. But before going back home, we never let the chance that we once witnessed the very wonderful presentation, we took a photo opportunity as our remembrance.
We went back home safe bringing the joy and fulfilling day. All I can say is that I never regret that I spent time watching the amazing Sanggi Festival.
