Albert Einstein: God is a product of "human weakness"

in #science5 years ago

In December 2018, the auction house Christies's put up for sale a letter that Albert Einstein sent to the German Jewish philosopher Eric Gutkind. The letter had an estimated price between 1 and 1.5 million dollars. However, the bid ended at 2.9 million. Why? Because of its content The letter is nothing less than the famous "Letter of God", where Albert Einstein exposes some of his thoughts on the Jewish people, religion, and the meaning of life.

The letter, dated January 3, 1954, consists of two pages written in German. By then Einstein was 75 years old, a year before his death. There he refutes some of the ideas that Eric Gutkind had coined in his latest book, "Choosing Life: The Biblical Call to Rebellion," which the author sent to Einstein (said book, the original envelope of the letter, and a photo of the philosopher, were also included in the auctioned lot).

The content of the letter is highly controversial, since it includes phrases such as "The word God is not for me more than the expression and the product of human weakness". Likewise, Einstein will refer to the Jewish religion as "superstitious incarnation" and the Bible as "a collection of legends, venerable but quite primitive."

Another of the most striking ideas of the letter is the following: "The Jewish people to which I belong willingly, and in whose way of thinking I feel deeply anchored, do not have any dignity for me different from that of the rest of the peoples. In my experience, they are not really better than other human groups, "said the scientist.

Leave us in the comments that you think about this, do you agree or not with Alberth Einstein ?. See you soon! 🤯😜🤪
