So enjoyed the panel discussion from the Science Festival (Brian Greene's event) a while back, after the first detection. some of the LIGO team was there explaining how much patience and dedication it took to stay with the project for so long, thanks for your article.

Yep. Building a high-energy physics or an astrophysics experiment takes time (and money of course). On top of that, we have never any guarantee to get a result. Therefore, as soon as we have one, the entire community is happy ^^

PS: I have never met Brian Greene, but I have read a lot of good stuff from and about him.

Yes, Brian is fighting the good fight for string, most everyone else jumped ship, he related to the G-wave hunters saying lots of patience needed for either pursuits! (I guess Capitalized MONSTER replaced the lower case fractal iteration monsters)!
