While I find some of his thoughts and theories a bit wild, one of the things that we all need to remember with academia, they viciously attack anyone who is working to bring people in a different direction than they were steering people.
The whole Egypt archeologist academic community is the most obvious example of dogma in academia.
I don't know Howard's theories as well as others have reviewed it, though I did listen to both of the episodes with him on it; alone and with the math professor, the content was a bit over my head.
Whether what Howard is saying is that wrong remains to be seen, we have to spend more time with it. Academia has killed many geniuses in the past for fighting against the dogma of the time, so we can't forget that at all. Eventually many of them were exonerated. Not all, but many.
