Psychologically, homosexual is an acquired abnormality, It can be caused by the pampering and petting of over affectionate parents, by an unnaturally close relationship between a boy and his mother, by fear of normal sex, by childhood training that sex is dirty, sinful, vile, and by the bad example of promiscuous parents.
Homosexual know the theories and explanations of their behaviour. They seek sympathizing psychiatrists who will try to help them adjust to a hostile society, or to rationalize and justify their behaviour.
Psychology can blame phobias, compulsions, obsessions, fixations, parental failures and misguided childhood behaviour patterns for causing homosexuality. Consequently, the homosexual can blame God, his parent, society and bad breaks for his condition, but rarely does he accept any responsibility for it himself.
This is why it is so important for the counsellor to lay a biblical foundation for the root cause of homosexuality. The counsellor must help the homosexual look at the basic cause, which is creature-Creator distortion (Rom. 1:25). We base this on a simple outline of Romans 1:18:32. The counsellor should take the homosexual through this outline as he seeks to lead him to Christ. This will set the framework for a cure.
