Ovarian Tumor Review ..
As said b4 in one of my previous posts, Ovarian cysts that re not part of a menstrual cycle are known as ovarian tumors. Some tumors can be cystic ( cystadenoma) or filled with fluid, can be solid ( fibroma) , some can have both cystic & solid components ( Dermoid ) . It is important to know different types which includes..
•Dermoid Tumor – known as a Mature Cystic Teratoma & has both a cystic & solid component. •Mucinous Cystadenoma – an ovarian cyst that contains mucous material. is the most common benign ovarian tumor & can grow very large.
•Serous Cystadenoma – an ovarian cyst that contains clear yellow fluid.
•Endometrioma – This is also known as chocolate cyst , filled with endometriotic fluid
•Fibroma – is a solid ovarian tumor resembling a fibroid. It can often be mistaken for a pedunculated fibroid on the ultrasound or MRI. As once said, the specific cause of an ovarian cyst or Tumor is yet to be ascertained but risk factors below are linked to a higher chance of havin it : .. *Family history: Women with relatives who hav had ovarian , colorectal or breast cancer ( having a BRCA gene can increase the risk ) * Age -women in reproductive age & specifically women who have gone thru menopause
*Smoking & excessive alcohol intake
*Obesity & overweight ppl *Taking fertility drugs (such as Clomid).,
*Hormone replacement therapy. *High number of total lifetime ovulations: There is a link btw the total number of ovulations during a woman's life & risk of ovarian cancer. Four main factors influence d total:
The more times a woman has become pregnant, the lower her risk is; Women who have never been on the contraceptive pill have a higher risk ; Women who started their periods at an early age have a high risk symptoms include Menstrual irregularities or abnormal bleeding, Dull ache in lower back , Pelvic pain with intercourse (dyspareunia),
Fullness of abdomen,Nausea, vomiting/ bloating etc
