Opinion Differences Between the Public and Scientists

in #science9 years ago

This graphic from the Pew Research Center shows that there is a significant difference between what the public believes and what scientists believe about issues in science. This gap can largely be attributed to the politicization of science. Liberals and conservatives have both accused each other of being anti-science. It turns out that neither group is really in line with scientific consensus when it conflicts with their political agendas. For example, liberals tend to deviate from scientists on issues such as genetically modified food and nuclear energy. Conservatives tend to deviate from scientists on climate change. The result is public policy that is based on feelings and ideology rather than facts.

I fall in line with the scientists views in this chart mostly. So do most of my colleagues. Looks fairly accurate actually from what I know of people's views.
