My thoughts:

  1. Asteroid mining as a way to get resources in space instead of having to launch mass out of the gravity well.
  2. Asteroids can be captured by gravity tractors , solar sails, and other long-term low energy over time processes.
  3. Captured asteroids could be hollowed into living space and fitted with propulsion systems for transportation while being funded by minerals harvested.
  4. Long-term terraforming projects on Mars

    I agree this was some of my thinking as well. My thoughts on using drones and robotics instead of using people I think could make this happen much faster.

    Indeed. Asteroid mining especially would benefit from drones.
