Have you ever awakened from a dream and for some reason you can not move or speak? If so, you have had "Sleep Paralysis."

I am sure that at some point in your life you have been in a "sleep paralysis", a feeling that has caused too much dread to those who have experienced it. In particular it has happened to me several times, I don´t know how many times but it has not been a single time, and the truth is that when it happens I feel desperation, impotence and let's say something of fear for not being able to move.

You realize that you are going through a Sleep paralysis, when you wake up you don´t get control of your body, and when I say that you do not have the control, It means that you can not move or speak, the only active muscles are the ocular and the respiratory muscles. It's like if you were trapped in your body.

That feeling of wanting to scream for help but you can not talk or move, that feeling of being unable to do anything, is the most overwhelming part that one can experience Sleep paralysis.

The good news is that Sleep paralysis is something ephemeral, only lasts a few minutes and then you return to your normal sleep state!

Scientists say sleep paralysis can be due to stress, anxiety, fatigue, sudden change in lifestyle (mourning, moving, job change) or irregular sleep. It is also part of the symptoms of narcolepsy.

Countless myths and legends have sprung up around the world regarding sleep paralysis. Throughout the centuries, symptoms have been described in many ways and often attributed to the action of evil beings: mysterious and demonic entities in ancient times, witches able to perform spells and hexes in the middle ages and more recently aliens abductions.

They say that to prevent sleep paralysis it is advisable not to think about it before falling asleep. Do not stress too much, sleep well,  keep sleep hygiene and try to sleep minimum 8 hours daily.

Tell me, if you have ever had a sleep paralysis and how was your experience.
