SpinLaunch is a startup based in Long Beach in California that has created an alternative method for launching rockets using primarily kinetic energy, as if it were a slingshot, the launch system uses a centrifuge that accelerates the rocket before being released into the space.

Founded in 2014 by Jonathan Yaney, the SpinLaunch company conducted its first successful test last October at Spaceport America in New Mexico, using a vacuum-sealed centrifuge that spins the rocket at several times the speed of sound before launching it at hypersonic speeds.

In spite of everything we had not heard of this project because according to the CEO of SpinLaunch "The bolder and more crazy a project is it is better to be working on it than to be talking about it" and before they had to convince themselves that the project could become viable since they were not very convinced.

At the moment they have built a one-third scale model that still is more than 50 meters high, which is the minimum size necessary to test its operation, in the vacuum chamber of the device it has a rotating arm that accelerates the projectile at high speed and then release it in less than a millisecond.

Although the launched test rocket did not have any engine installed on board, the company intends to install an engine as well as other flight systems in future launches, and like SpaceX the company intends to reuse its rockets and has already carried out the pertinent tests successfully.

In conventional launches, rockets use powerful motors that lift them off the ground, so they need huge amounts of fuel that increase the weight of the aircraft and reduce its payload, with this new design 200 kg of payload could be placed that would allow it to place in orbit several small satellites.
En los lanzamientos convencionales los cohetes utilizan potentes motores que los levantan del suelo por lo que necesitan enormes cantidades de combustible que incrementan el peso de la aeronave y reducen su carga útil, con este nuevo diseño se podrían colocar 200 kg de carga útil que permitiría colocar en órbita varios satélites pequeños.

Hola @mauromar, esto es un juguete gigante… deberían colocarle por nombre “David y Goliat”.
Saludos @mauromar, si algunas personas les pereció una tontería cuando Elon Musk menciono traer los cohetes de regreso y aterrizarlos… Entonces este planteamiento les hubiese causado la muerte por un ataque de risa.
