Ethylene is a derivative of petroleum that is used as a raw material in the manufacture of plastics and whose obtaining requires the application of enormous amounts of heat and produces one and a half tons of CO2 emissions for each ton created, so if they are produced about 160 million tons of ethylene a year, this generates more than 260 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions worldwide.
El etileno es un derivado del petróleo que se utiliza como materia prima en la fabricación de plásticos y en cuya obtención se necesita aplicar enormes cantidades de calor y produce una tonelada y media de emisiones de CO2 por cada tonelada creada, por lo que si se producen unos 160 millones de toneladas de etileno al año, esto genera más de 260 millones de toneladas de emisiones de dióxido de carbono en todo el mundo.
