In Spain alone, there are more than 100,000 people waiting for an organ transplant, but this is a very complex procedure, not only because of the difficulty of finding compatible donors, but also because it requires a lot of speed in extracting and transferring the donor organ and it continues to require a highly specialized technical and human team.

The shortage of donors has made specialists look for alternatives in the use of animal organs, mainly pigs, which have a certain compatibility with human organs but, if transplanting an organ from human to human is complicated, much more difficult are transplants from animal to human.

Now a group of Israeli researchers have been able to create synthetic mouse embryos and evolve them to start producing organs without using sperm or eggs, or even a biological uterus, simply by growing stem cells from these mice in a laboratory dish.

At the moment a different protocol has to be developed for each type of cell (liver, kidney, etc.) but the idea of these scientists is to create a synthetic model of a complete embryo to later isolate the cells that they need in each case but, if obtaining organs is complex, you can imagine what it will be like to synthesize a complete embryo.
De momento se ha de desarrollar un protocolo diferente para cada tipo de célula (hepática, renal, etc.) pero la idea de estos científicos es crear un modelo sintético de embrión completo para posteriormente aislar las células que necesiten en cada caso pero, si obtener órganos es complejo podéis imaginar como será sintetizar un embrión completo.
This all sounds a bit creepy, and of course it's just a nascent development, but if it ever works out as they hope it could be very good news for the millions of people waiting for a donor as a last resort to preserve their lives.
Todo esto suena un poco siniestro y, por supuesto, no es más que un desarrollo incipiente, pero si algún día funciona como ellos esperan puede ser una muy buena noticia para los millones de personas que esperan algún donante como último recurso para conservar su vida.
