I like the percentage way of looking at it. The Washington Post explain it well but essentially it is this:

  • When you are young ie a 10 year old 1 year is 10% of all the time that you have experienced so it is long and slow.
  • A 50 year old on the other hand, 1 year to them is merely 2% of the total they have experienced so it becomes a very short period of time to them and consequently will go by fast.
