Dropbox
Dropbox is file hosting service operated by Dropbox Inc having headquarter in San Francisco, California. The service offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. This application allows the user to create a special folder in the computer which can be synchronized so that it appears to be in the same folder having all the content regardless of the computer which is used to view it. Files in these folders are also accessible through the websites or even through the mobile application. Dropbox made available client software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS and web browsers, as well as unofficial ports to Symbian, Windows Phone, and MeeGo.
The brief history of Dropbox
Dropbox officially launched at 2008’s TechCrunch50 an annual technology conference. In may, 2011 Dropbox deals with Japanese mobile service provider. Dropbox official domain name was “getdropbox.com” until October 2009. As of October 2011, Dropbox had more than 50 million registered user and later on November 2012 user reached 100 million.
Experience of using Dropbox
My experience of using the Dropbox is fantastic because it greatly helps me to synchronize my file from the computer and later to use these files from another remote location. The synchronization tools not only help in transferring the word file but the pdf file, jpg, and video can also be shared and later be used from any other location.
Slight problem that I encounter
· When I place application file .exe in dropbox these file properties are modified by the server and when I retrieved back to install in my Smartphone, it does not work. However, this is the small problem and can be solved after some change in setting and now the upgraded version, this type of problem is not encountered.
Sometimes when we change platform like the window, Mac or Android there is the problem in image file access. Sometimes the problem like no network access also happens which delay the problem of file transfer.
· Another unique problem that I face that sometimes that some of my files is deleted from the folder without my consent, that causes the severe problem
· The problem of limited bandwidth and limited storage facility also cause the problem in synchronizing the large size file.
The advantage of using the Dropbox
· It helps to synchronize the file and use the entire file accumulated at one place from one place.
· It helps in taking the case study and assignment of school and post the completed assignment.
· The cloud computing techniques help in accessing this file from any remote computer without including them in LAN network.
