Maybe Bowie was onto something, although I'm not sure he was that into astrobiology. Yesterday Nasa announced they had found complex organic matter on the red planet. This doesn't necessarily mean there was life, but it indicates the conditions may have been right for life to evolve in the past. These compounds were found by the Curiosity rover that has travelled 12 miles on Mars over the last 6 years. It was able to drill into some rocks to see what is buried there.
A separate report reveals that Curiosity has detected seasonal fluctuations in methane. It's taken years to confirm this. The source of methane is not known yet, but a new probe from ESA has just started looking into it.
I remember the Viking landers on Mars in the 70s. It's great that we are still learning about our neighbour. I would love to see people there in my lifetime, but that's still a big challenge.

I don't believe they're even there pal...same with the moon thing. It doesn't add up. Too many impossibles. All Hollywood fantasy. Many of the pics sent back match earth scenes perfectly. Nasa say they can't put men on the moon now because they 'lost the knowledge' that they had in the 60's. This is stretching credibility too far IMO. Very interesting is nasa with the Wernher Von Braun stuff etc.
Well thousands of people may be wasting their time then. That's a shame as I work with some of them. Getting to space is hard and really expensive. I doubt they lost knowledge about getting to the moon, but it cost a ridiculous amount to get there. Seems the Russians and Chinese are in on the conspiracy too
There's plenty of videos where nasa scientists admit they can't put men on the moon or mars because they cannot get through the Van Allen radiation belt. Also nasa astronaut Don Pettit openly states 'they lost the knowledge.' As you say Russia and China and probably India and others must be in on it but ultimately they're all ruled by the same masters. The evidence I've seen for fraud is overwhelming. I wouldn't say the people were wasting their time. They have done their job as they were employed to do and their ultimate employers regard that job as of the utmost importance.
Sorry, but I disagree and I trust the great engineers who worked on these projects that they overcame the obstacles. Not sure who these 'masters' are, but the Russians would have exposed the US if they had faked anything.
Don Petitt actually said 'we used to (have it), but we destroyed that technology', which probably means the Saturn 5 programme was ended and everyone moved on or retired. Other big rockets are being built.
As for the Van Allen belt, they were not in it long when travelling at 25,000 mph.
I think the sceptics tend to cherry-pick what suits them and ignore the overwhelming evidence that this stuff is real. IMHO.
Really exciting news. Just think, if our nearest planet has life on it, then the probability of other life in the universe is huge. I've always believed that life in some form or another exists out there, just simply doesn't make sense that we would be the only planet in such a massive cosmos to do so.
I believe that there is a high probability that in my lifetime, humans will have landed on Mars. *fingers crossed
Great song! I saw this news story yesterday and it is all very exciting. I don't know as though it is going tell us anything or really give us any ground breaking information, but it is still very exciting. It would be cool to see humans walking on Mars some day!
It would be funny if the Mars rovers did all these complex experiments for delicate microbial life....and then a massive space monster eloquently introduces himself to the Rover camera. 😝😝😝
I don't understand why people spend a lot of money to check if mars is livable. I hope they spend more money protecting Earth and fixing it. Finding another planet is not the solution. Just an opinion.

Our very tame solar system has life - proxima ? I never understood dark matter or energy.
science and technology can change the world
I don't know if we are going to see people on mars in our lifetime, it would be great because many of us had not been born yet when the man walked in the moon.
