These bees are connected to the internet. Internet of stings, Britain's web-connected bees.

Scientists there just using super glue and then pick up a tag. The tags let beekeepers count bees as they fly in and out of the hive.

By doing this, scientists are more capable of understanding their behaviour, when they leave the hive how long they stay out away. And when they return how, who they are travelling with. They are identifying individual insects here. Which they not capable of doing in the past.

It is hoped that the technique they are using will help beekeepers learn more about what keeps bees healthy.

The bees are among a number of objects being connected to the internet across Manchester. it is the part of the phenomenon called the internet of things, and it is supposed to provide data to make the city smarter.

They only managed to get about half a dozen bees hooked up, but in the coming months, thousands of them will be at work not just making honey but also providing data which could make Manchester a healthy and smarter city.
