why does water is white as it falls down in a waterfall?

in #science7 years ago

It is a known fact that water is transparent. So why does water turn white as it falls down in a waterfall? As a river approaches a waterfall, it starts to pick up speed. This causes water to stir and mix, allowing air to dissolve in the water. As water falls down, the dissolved air creates millions of tiny bubbles in the water. These small air bubbles give water its white colour. They reflect light in an unorderly fashion, in all directions, making the water appear white in colour.
