Electric current flows when there is a potential difference between terminals, usually from higher potential(positive terminal ie live) to lower terminal(negative ie neutral). This law makes charges to flow and also applied in magnetic fields(unlike charges attract, like charges repel).
If we are to make progress in life(to make progress Godward is to make progress in life as He is the definition of life), is as like charges(men of same nature, like passion and compatibility) attract and unlike(different nature, makeup and incompatible) charges repel. Light and darkness have no relationship, righteousness and unrighteousness have no concord. We cannot be built by corrupting and decaying means or personalities but by the refining and grooming things and elements of God at work in and among us. To slow a believer down is to subject him to opposite forces that have not the nature and components of God allowing such to influence him.
We cannot spiritualize or take what is natural and make it spiritual as what is flesh is flesh(cannot be converted) and what is spirit is spirit. Natural and weak men cannot make us strong. Men of looseness cannot make us straight. People of poor principles cannot make us men of principles.
On the other hand, where there is potential difference, water can flow, electric current can flow, movement can take place usually from higher potential to lower potential. Men with God in them have higher potential hence the influence of God can flow from us to the world, to the starving and dying men. To be a blessing to the world, there must be a potential difference(the less is blessed by the greater), but if we are to grow Godward and advance, unlike charges is a distraction.
