IGMS column 9: Spelunking the Noosphere

in #scifi9 years ago

My September 2016 column for the Intergalactic Medicine Show is a short history of the idea of information as particles, both in biology (genes) and in human thought and culture (memes).  It does not directly address Shannon's information theory and how that ties in with thermodynamics and computational evolutionary biology, though that's pretty interesting stuff, too.

PlotBot is a monthly column that explores scientific ideas that I think are under-used in science fiction, or which are used in boringly traditional ways.  I link to them here rather than reposting them because I want to drive traffic to their site.

Interesting - computational evolutionary biology looks pretty cool! You should post stuff in my reddit group - it's very related
