Yesterday we did some more digging into the movies/tv show imports.
Basically a lot of imports were getting dismissed cause we weren't able to successfully fetch it from wikipedia, so we decided to instead just upload those movies "as is". This was largely due to some imports having a lot of foreign movies and wikipedia generally being trash for movie titles.
We could use TMDB but it's a $150/month subscription currently to use their API so not really something we can afford currently for a project raking in exactly 0$ per month :D
We also added support for Trakt json files as well as Letterboxd imports.
Another thing I noticed was that lyrics weren't really quick at fetching, having them on the server is also a bit of a gray area as they're technically copyrighted, so we decided to do something different where we post lyrics onto the chain in comments and post containers. The only thing the server then saves is where lyrics are (i.e. which post container) so it could faster fetch them, as currently fetching comments is a lot faster than fetching custom ops since we can't yet fetch custom ops by ID (although I hear that's being implemented and released soon). You can imagine this as, us trying to filter through 99% splinterlands op to find the 0.1% that may be custom ops of scrobble.
This also allows for community members to fill in lyrics themselves if they're able to fetch them from other sources if our inhouse fetcher wasn't able to, for instance the comment section of one of those posts looked like this:

We also circumvent the copyright thing this way because if we do get a takedown notice we can just take it down from the front-ends. And we can reward users for fetching correct lyrics with some small upvotes on comments.
Another idea was then to delay creating custom ops for new scrobbles until the lyrics comment has landed so we can include its permlink into the custom op of that new song.
Currently we're backfilling lyrics onto the chain from the ~2500 scrobbles we have so far.
We also released a new game called Hit and Miss
It's basically an asteroid shooter where you get to type out the song or artist names as fast and correctly as you can. It's based on existing scrobbles currently with all letters lowercase to make it easier for players.
The weird part right now is that some songs may appear as all languages which may make it a bit harder. We may separate it in a later version.
Other ideas are to start adding boosts over time, like being able to slow down the game temporarily, get extra lives, make some names auto finish on first letter, etc.

Anyway, you can test 3/5 games today already just using keychain:
I tried it finally out (so far music only), and it is actually really nice and works like a charme. Well done!
Thanks, let me know if you find any bugs!
I think that there could be interactive and supportive environment by utilizing the community for fetching lyrics and rewarding them for their contributions.
150€/montth that's indeed too much, ok not as crazy as Twitter but need some revenue to sustain it anyways to make it worth
whoa.. thats a hefty sub fee for sure. :(
Great update, @acidyo, The workaround for the lyrics using the blockchain to avoid copyright issues is a very smart move. Also, the new 'Hit and Miss' game looks like a lot of fun, especially the idea of typing out song names to save the day! Looking forward to seeing the future boosts in the game.
Thanks for the updates❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇧🇩
Have the comments made from the site give a 5% beneficiary to a scrobble owned account to fund it.
