There are advantages and disadvantages of joining in contests and challenges on Steemit. There are picture challenges/contests, writing short stories, poem or given prompts. I like to search for any that are still available to join.
It has helped me in my writing and taking better pictures. Especially short stories and poems. It makes you think. I also love those with a prompt or given a word where we have to make a story revolving on that word.
Some have prizes and some don't It doesn't matter to me because sometimes I have nothing to write and these challenges/contests gives me ideas. I would like to be able to makes at least 2-3 posts a day. So when nothing come to my mind, these challenges/contests comes to the rescue.
I have actually won for the first time as an honorable mention in a"Describe the picture" contest. Just make 200 words about a picture the host of the contest gives. I would make the story, check the number of words and edit until I get the needed number of words and make sure the idea is there. I also won one game during the discord last Saturday. I was a great feeling to see steems given as prizes.
I think one disadvantage would be that you still will have no idea to write. Or the contest/challenges are hard or about a topic you have no idea about.
But I will still keep looking out for these contest/challenges so I will have something to write. Last time I made a post about searching for the contests/challenges. Now this is the pros and cons. Lol.
So why not try them out too. I also look at other steemians who posts about challenges/contests and check if I can do it too. I most especially like those that offer rewards. It would be a big help. Also it helps you get recognized and hones your writing skills.
